The Unions have contracts with health care providers that are often times better than the public can obtain. For instance, the IBEW has an arrangement with Anthem Blue Cross that is better than employees of Blue Cross can get.

The union insurance plans are very convenient. HMO, PPO, Kaiser, take your pick. The money for this comes from the union dues deducted from the paycheck. It's usually under $100 per month for a family of four.

Dental, orthodontics, chiropractic care, and vision plans are all included. There is no extra burden put on the employees because the support is from within the union. Those employees don't have to contribute to the other 100 million people without health care.
