John Nation, director of corporate marketing for Spansion, plans to pay a visit to Taiwan this week, raising speculation that the NOR flash chipmaker is looking to aggressively take back the orders that were shifted to Macronix International Company (MXIC) and Winbond Electronics while being in bankruptcy proceedings.

Spansion, which took a financial hit in fourth-quarter 2008, filed to open insolvency proceedings on March 2. The leading NOR memory maker recently said its exit from Chapter 11 protection is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2009.

In response to Spansion's possible moves, Macronix has commented that it remains difficult to challenge the US vendor's market dominance, as Macronix only has 4% of the NOR flash market, much lower than Spansion's 40%.

Macronix and Winbond have reportedly received some orders shifted from Spansion's clients.
