I think it might be using an indirect method. The website doesn't say how all barcodes are handled.
Somehow the barcode is used to track the date of manufacture, shipping, and whether the product went above or below a certain temperature. No way a standard barcode could encapsulate all this information. And if a barcode is scanned at checkout how can the checkout machine have all the information encoded into it. There has to be some type of backroom routing.
At first blush I think all this cannot be handled in a direct methodology.
