Yes Spanish is the way to go IMO. Remember about 25% of the US speaks Spanish. (Yes there is a world outside of N/A.. but..). Well a good percentage worldwide speaks it too.

I am not so gung ho with taking French as a "class" - unless they are in emersion. I was taught french from grade 2 to grade 8; then opted to take it from 9-10. Of course you would never guess that.. can't speak much of it. Either the interest was not there or the method of teaching was not correct.

I remember watching this french guy (with the painted face - no idea his name). They would show the skit in parts - and then review in English. Then they would show the complete skit in French. I watched that at home. Not to say I learned anything from that - but they never showed that in school. I think they should have.

Anyways two of my favorites..

J'ne pas parler français aujourd'hui.

Je me souviens.

Our school board seems to offer free language lessons; but it is ashame that Spanish isn't part of the curriculum early on (as you mention) -- oh right, because French and English are the only "offical" languages.

WAY WAY OT: And when did Quebec sign the constitution? Lets not go there..
