Dear Shareholder:

Beacon issues press releases for various reasons. While we often issue releases to update shareholders, we also address the local residents and media via our releases. A press release is just that, a dissemination to the media and invitation to them to expand upon the statements therein.

In the present case, the company deemed it important to address a situation we had with the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. The newspaper published an article on July 17, 2009, that admitted entering our property unlawfully with a young child. They allowed and encouraged the child to sift through dirt looking for small pieces of glass. The glass, being unfinished materials, may contain harmful substances. We learned that the newspaper never advised those it took to the site that they did not receive permission to do so. We believe the event is one of importance and chose to address the community in that regard.

Our prior release stated that we entered into settlement discussions at the request of the Township to form a timeline for the demolition. We did not publish what the timeline agreed on was because the agreement was not finalized by either party.

As to our other properties, we stated in our press release that Rick was going to be arriving in West Virginia today.

As to additional investments, the company chooses to purchase properties or engage in projects when it believes it will be cost effective such as obtaining it below market value. As repeatedly stated in press releases, the company believes it is on track with its demolition project at the Westmoreland Glass Factory. The company would not expand its operations if it believed such an expansion would have an adverse impact on the present projects.
