Dear ol' pontiyak. This is my assessment of the type of logic that yak uses. Lets say you, pontiyak and i go Deer hunting. We pick up the prints of a deer and follow it about a mile until they start going up a steep hillside. We decide to give up the track.

However, pontiyak, in all his glorious wisdom, has concluded that we have gone about this all wrong and that the tracks are proof positive that Deer walk backwards when descending mountains. Consequently, he chases back the way we came.
