I hadn't heard this one, but it's been done before. You would be surprised how many programmers have access to proprietary trading code. You can try to compartmentalize portions of the code but part of the value of an algorithm is the speed at which is optimizes multiple components. Programmers have a legitimate need to see all parts of the code in order to optimize sub routines.

BTW, this guy's defense that he was only copying the "open source" portion of the code is laughable. I doubt GS uses 32MB (1600 pages of text) of open source code. He's 100% full of shit.

Also, if the spelling in this post is atrocious it's because I've been sick for three days and I'm barely lucid right now.
