Do you really believe MMs sit around thinking about whether what they do will have some effect on people who don't have Level II?

Yes I do...I watch L2 everyday all day for a number of stocks, and witness some absolutely INSANE MM behavior...
It's whatever it takes to get people to sell or buy, depending on whether they are net short or long... it's all one big game for them - a game they usually win
