It is very difficult. Just as it's difficult to not understand other people's frames of mind. Not everyone is as forgiving nor forgetful as you say.

and you're right unfortunately, you can't change past choices but you do have control over future decisions and actions.

I have a post saved in my "kept" posts from October 19th, 2007 in which I met an individual here on ihub. It's a post that's set an unfortunate path of destruction and chain of events since then. I've even TOS'd it a couple of times thinking if I could make that date go away, things would magically change but the post stands (rightfully so) and so does all that has occurred since then.

So in theory, you're right about "To live not yesterday, not tomorrow but today in the present." It's the only reasonable choice.
