A question about burning an image file in Nero

I am able to create the Image(*.nrg file) and place it on my desktop.

I then burn it to my CD burner.

When I check the CD after burning, it does not show up as an image file but as the original data file (same as prior to the image conversion).

Is this normal? I am trying to update the firmware on a machine and cannot get the update to "take"
