Kiwa has issued press releases in the past regarding a preventative for certain animal diseases including avian and swine flu. With the heavy media coverage of swine flu cases these releases have brought the company name into awareness.
AF-01 is Kiwa's product that is approved in China for use in veterinary and agricultural industries. Kiwa is working to obtain approval for a production facility for the product. (Note, separate approvals required for both the product and production facility.)
Testing and further development to receive approvals for use in humans would take a great deal of capital and considerable time. This may be an opportunity for Kiwa in the future, but the company is not in a position to respond over the short term to the recently reported cases of human swine flu.
Moreover, much of the recent news has focused on human swine flu cases in North America. Seeking approval as either a veterinary or human product in Mexico, Canada or the USA would also require considerable capital and time. Certainly the US FDA would require safety and efficacy testing that might take years and millions of dollars.
Swine flu is highlighted in the media this week due to unfortunate deaths and serious illness. The disease and related flu outbreaks are forecast to continue as a problem into the future. While Kiwa may not be able to provide a short term solution it is working to provide an effective preventative for use against future outbreaks.
