secolton...forget about the market maker...they do not have the available time to mess around

orders get routed through an individuals broker...or routed by choice...or buried in "arca"..etc

it's not the market maker lowering or raising anything....it is a buyer and seller setting a quote that will get it's bid or ask(hopefully)...routed through any given market maker..or specialist---they "make the market" with what they see

but yes...there is always manipulation...that lies within every human being....
