I have my average in a spreadsheet which calculates it automatically with each transaction I enter. I sometimes trade frequently, and need the data quick in a fast market.

Dollar cost averaging is an excellent strategy which is touted by many of the Guru's. I believe it started with Graham and Dodd. If a Guru knows it, it is a symbol of his education. Just the same, he could be an educated idiot, and learning to be a con man requires an education also.
