I don't think your thoughts on "muscle tone" are correct. When a person is awake, they have muscle tone in the throat. That's why the airway is not blocked. This ability is compromised during sleep. The mechanism that accomplishes this is apparently stimulation of the glossal nerve? The "muscle tone" is already present.

Recreating the "stimulated nerve effect" during sleep should be doable. But, the problem may be that ampakines can't target that specific nerve without hitting many others in the process. Most likely a state that is not full sleep will be the result. This would have to be seen as a failure.

I hope that COR management hasn't put all of their eggs in this basket. Maybe the Easter bunny will bring us some new carrots instead of the SA goose-egg? Yeah, right.
