Hi Clive, Re: Newport's various uses................

If you create separate folders and copy the Newport program into each one, then you can have separate portfolios in each one. For instance, if you wanted a "growth stocks" portfolio and kept it separated this way then all your printouts would just contain those stocks. You could have another one that was just "income" holdings and get a printout of just that one also.

I have Newport installed multiple times for my own family. One or two for each member (retirement accounts separate from taxable holdings, for instance). With such a tiny EXE function, the whole of them doesn't put a dent in the hard drive's capacity. In the case of my own folder, there's 64 files, but the grand total is only 445K in size (exclusive of the Winport.Exe and "Help" files). That's 15 years worth of weekly histories and will fit on a single diskette!

Another thing I do is to use one to feed another. For instance my composite Retirement graphic is created from my retirement Newport folder. I print out the sum total of my retirement holdings (or you can pull the values off your brokerage site) and then use the total as the "asset value" of the account. I started it originally with an arbitrary 10,000 "shares" and just divided the total value (exclusive of the cash) by 10,000 to get an NAV per "share." Any time I sell anything, I take the value divided by the current "NAV" and tell Newport tha tI've sold that many shares at the NAV. That way I get the cute summary graph I use at the web site.

With Newport being so tiny, it would seem a natural for use on hand held PDAs and such, if it could be made to work.

Anyway, it's nice of you to share it.

Best regards, Tom
