"IT doesn't get it"

If SKS and WAVE are focusing on "IT guys" to get TPMs turned ON and WAVE's products used, then they are clueless. In my experience IT rarely initiates the adoption of new information processing technology (hardware or software) in an organization. They are usually concerned primarily with keeping systems up and running and getting the budget to do that. New technology is adopted because there is a problem to be solved and someone in upper management is demanding a solution.

New operating systems are sdopted when there are applications that must be run and they aren't supported by the old operating system. New hardware is purchased when the old hardware will not effectively run the new operating system or when the network is too slow. Almost no one buys new IT equipment because its cool. This is particulary true in these economic times.

SKS and WAVE need to be selling to the CEO, CFO, or CIO. And they need to be selling a solution to a problem, not "cool" software. The need to protect data at rest is a problem. SEDs are a solution to this problem. So, finally, WAVE has a problem it can help solve. But just an "IT guy", in an organization of any size, is not likely to take the initiative of going to the CEO and trying to sell her or him on buying new computers with SEDs and software to manage them. He doesn't want the extra work and blame if it doesn't work out. SKS and WAVE need to be selling the CEO, CFO, or CIO on why it is in their best interest to use SEDs and why WAVE has the best software to support them.

The last five personal computers that I bought for my own use from Dell had TPMs and Wave's software. I even used to buy it before it was bundled. I have yet to turn ON a TPM on one of my personal computers, because I don't have what I feel is a critical application that requires a TPM. If my bank (or any other bank) would provide a more secure form of online banking using TPMs, I would turn mine ON immediately.

I buy Dell computers at work, they all have TPMs none are turned ON. The next batch I buy will probably have SEDs, maybe the TPMs will get turned ON. I have to look into whether there are any problems with ghosting images from and to SEDs.
