The E2100 chip is/may be dead, but not the intellectual property that comprises it (the Embassy Trust System).
Turns out that the E2100 chip was a sort of prototype for trusted computing. While the chip itself deployed in limited numbers it proved a concept, and it's IP is still a player.
Whether Wave ever continues deployment of an Embassy chip is subject to speculation. An ultra high security card reader application perhaps? The volume would have to be there however or it probably would not pencil.
