In today's corporate and employment climate, I have to say I honestly prefer having my own 401k/403b retirement fund. While there are inherent risks to anything (like waking up in the morning, for one...), I'd rather have my own account and contribute to it over 30 years than depend on some corporate executive or government bureaucrat to manage it for me. Besides, with a pension you only get a measly check every month, whereas with a retirement fund that YOU OWN you also get a check but have a net worth as well...I hope to be a multi-millionaire by the time I retire and then want to leave the money for my children and grandchildren...to heck with pensions, they're not dependable anymore...
