Good morning, it's Sunday. Amid all the economic gloom and doom of the last few months, some websites today feature stories about industries where hope springs eternal.

The Los Angeles Times found a niche where jobs can still be had -- if you're willing to climb a 300-foot tower to earn your paycheck. The Wind Technology Boot Camp at California's Cerro Coso Community College is "where eight weeks of study and $1,000 in tuition might lead to a job repairing mammoth wind turbines like the ones sprouting up across this region."

CNN reports on a once-shuttered steel mill outside Philadelphia where about 300 workers now build wind turbines. Jim Bauer, who worked at the steel mill, now at the turbine plant, told CNN "we are still blue-collar guys at heart, but green-collar relative to the machines and what we are making."

The Miami Herald reports on how older civilians are being lured to the military. The story focuses on a 40-year old recruit. Says the Herald: "Analysts anticipate that these hard times may help build a more mature, discerning Army less reliant on bonuses and waivers for would-be soldiers with health issues or criminal records."

Does hope ever spring more eternal than in the movies? The New York Times reports on the silver lining on the silver screen. "The movie industry has been startled by a box-office surge that has little precedent in the modern era," we are told.
