If you were a landlord to some third rate industrial park and you hadn't seen any rent in several months, your phone calls were not returned and you hadn't seen your tenant in months, where would you look for answers?

I might google the company and if I saw that the largest shareholder was still actively playing as though the company was still alive, despite all evidence to the contrary, I might give him a call to see what he knew.

Doesn't sound too nefarious to me. In fact in makes perfect sense.
