What's disturbing to me is that last year I did a review of Big Pharma companies as partners from the smaller company viewpoint, based on numerous interviews of CEOs and BusDev people, their identities kept cloaked. One of the themes that kept coming out was the continued fragmentation of control and communication pathways within the bloated post-merger entity--even several years later. Sanofi-Aventis was described as particularly unintegrated, with the French and German operations still barely speaking to each other. Even Pfizer's incorporation of Pharmacia and Warner-Lambert has been rough (particularly regarding Pharmacia). The cultures at Pfizer and Wyeth are quite different--I think that cramming them together will be ugly, with a lot of casualties.
