The Red Sox had a weight clause in Curt Schilling's contract where they could weigh him a certain number of times during the season and if he was under a certain weight, he'd get a bonus. They could not void his contract if he was over the weight. Essentially you can not penalize a player for being overweight but you can give them an incentive to be in shape. In some instances, I think it is a good thing for the club to do.
