I used to train soldiers and I am sure he was trying to get into a program where a student who is 17 can join the Army when he/she is 17, with the parents consent and he/she will take their basic training the summer between their junior and senior year. After they graduate from high school, they go right in the Army for their advanced training and on to a permanent assignment.
