What you said makes sense and there are patents for some cleaning products, but the reason why its not that big of a deal is because you cant patent their USE... You can only patent the ingredients and once you make the ingredients PUBLICLY KNOWN by filing a patent, a competitor only needs to change it a little... For example, there are generic bleach products that sell next to Clorox, but only ONE has the Clorox name... The TRUE asset is in the name
