Some of the bozos here lack the imagination to envision any other system than the one they have always known. They will cling to it in the same way paleolithic humans may have clung to the local witchdoctor to bring rains. If the witchdoctor failed they would have called for more rain dances and lambasted those who suggested digging irrigation ditches.

You will have a hard time getting through that fear of change to make them recognize that there are other ways to provide discipline to the market than by unleashing unelected bureaucratic thugs on the landscape like the barbarians sacking Rome.

Just like the paleolithic people calling for more rain dances when the rain dances fail you will have people today calling for a larger regulatory state when the regulatory state has failed. Of course perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps another dozen agencies and a couple hundred thousand additional pages in the federal register would solve everything.

Now envisioning that really takes some imagination.
