Covering the short sends the price up when shorters are forced to cover their positions in a short space of time/quickly. This is usually fuelled by positive news about the company etc, that would cause a rapid appreciation in share price that can't be manipulated. Those 350mil shares were covered when this was still on its way down and even now due to the uncertainty about WMI'S financial position. This may change next week, but then you should know all this already.
