To our CPA's

Interdigital defines "free cash flow" as operating cash flow less purchase of property, equipment, technology licenses and investments in patents. The first 9 months produced over 77 million in free cash flow.

What is the significance of this accounting method? Does it have an effect on the street and share value? What is included in the "investments in patents" category? What expenditures are not included in this "free cash flow" number? Which company provided the 7 million dollar rabbit for us this quarter?

Thanks in advance.
