More OT Baby Talk. When I was younger, I wanted a big family and as I got older and it wasn't happening, the number of kids I hoped for slowly shrank. Right about the time I started getting used to the idea that it wasn't going to happen for me (I was 41 and usually dated women in my age group), bam! it happened. Heidi and I got engaged last September and she got preggers just a few weeks later in October. We had to rush the wedding so we could still have a honeymoon.

It was a bit of shocker--we both had friends in our age bracket trying to conceive and for all of them it was a long expensive gut-wrenching process while with us it just happened. We talked about trying but before we seriously got started, little Jane was on her way. I guess it was all about meeting the right person.

Funny thing is, those friends who were working with the best medical science has to offer--in vitro failed for all of them and most of them, after giving up, went on to have kids the old fashioned way. (Actually, all of them got pregs, but one had a miscarriage and had to give up hope a second time.)

And now I'm one of those people who can talk for 10 minutes about how the little precious rolled over yesterday or how she held her bottle all by herself this morning.

Want to hear about it?
