Individual stocks versus ETFs

I have a fairly diversified portfolio of individual stocks that I have been AIMing. Earlier this year I thought about switching over to a smaller number of ETF holdings but did not. I have been pretty confident about my holdings but this economic environment is starting to scare me with respect to potential bankruptcy filings. Also, with the end of the year approaching, I am again wondering if I should switch to ETFs and use the realized losses for tax purposes. I would appreciate any opinions, particularly on reasons not to switch.
