jai...add to your list..Handset Maker Pantech & Curitel to Set up Branches in United States

June 17, 2004 (SEOUL) -- Pantech & Curitel Co, Ltd is making inroads into the cellular phone market in the United States by establishing its own branches there.

Korea's third-largest handset manufacturer announced on June 15 that it will establish its own sales network in the US, including Los Angeles, Atlanta and four other regional headquarters areas in 2004.

Originally, the company planned to take over Audiovox Communications Corp (ACC), a local wireless handset division of Audiovox Corp in order to galvanize its US operations.

With UTS Starcom Inc, a US communications equipment company offering to take over ACC for up to US$165 million, the Korean company dropped its bid, which was rumored to be for less than US$100 million.

"The company has already hired more than 70 US workers and it will expand its presence in the country," according to a Pantech& Curitel official.
