These are Canadian companies, and more Canadians read StockWatch.

And since this "news" was published by stockwatch.com and not the major news services, I would guess almost anyone could fax in a fake press release, and if you catch someone off guard it could get posted as legit. Most PR services cost money, and issuing PRs can cost a few thousand dollars.

CPA and KPG were halted "pending an announcement". The announcement was made, and the companies resumed trading:

Resume Trading---> 1098@EXCHANGE NOTICE UNITED CARINA RESOURCES CORP. ("UCA")
- Resume Trading

TSX Venture Tier 2 Company

Effective at 8:45 a.m., PST, June 15, 2004, shares of the Company
resumed trading, an announcement having been made over
StockWatch.
