Keep in mind that some very wealthy individuals (particularly founders of well known companies) pledge their shares of stock as collateral for loans. Those loan have covenants related to stock price. If the stock price drops, the debter has to provide collateral. Sumner Redstone's recent dumping of Viacom stock is a good example. Trust me, there are people getting margin calls right now.
