DVOM, Thanks... I'am now in my "trial and error" mode :o)
after I downloaded from the link you supplied, but but but
it gave me AdSubtractSE v2.52, not "totally free" v1.68.

The info for v1.68 didn't have "run on" Windows XP,
so maybe that switched my download.

But all is o.k. as I'll try out the 2.52 version.

I got it running but I need more "trial and error" usage,
as I still get ads using the default AOL 9.0 browser and
the Microsoft IE that was preinstalled on my WinXP.
I have the sounds clicked yes to ding when it blocks an ad,
and I added dictionary.com to the list... or maybe that list
did the opposite.

ok, but the first steps of download and install are done,
and thats 95% the "battle" to get something working.

The readme file is very very well done, lots of instructions
and help to install and trouble shoot. I'll start reading it.
