I will let the Chinese government make those decisions.

The only thing I care about is the penetration of IDCC into this market no matter what decisions are made by the Chinese government.

Spreadtrum is a good first step.

China to produce 605 million mobile units by 2008: CCID Consulting report

China is expected to produce 605 million mobile units in 2008 which is far more than the 550 million handsets produced last year, as per the report released by China’s research and consulting firm, CCID Consulting.

The report by CCID states that out of the 605 million handsets nearly 400 million handsets or 66 percent of total production will be exported to foreign countries and the left over 205 million cell phones will be produced for the domestic market.

As per the current data, China mobile manufacturers have produced 279 million cell phones in its first half of 2008 with 96.4 million consumed in China. Further mobile manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG have contributed to 65 percent of the total production which is 70 to 80 percent lower than the last two year’s production contribution.
