Hi Tainaor...I believe you got it all wrong, and I guess I am too but until now...Mobile IP is being used by the cellular provider since they start rolling out 1XRTT (since 2001) and now 1EVDO...Mobile IP is used for the handover of IP Addresses assigned to each of the cellphones assuming they are using it to browse the internet, the handover of the IP is needed for the cellsites not to drop the connection during the handover process between cell coverage and for them to know the IP Address assigned to the Cellphone...If you will connect the dots based from this information, then there will be NO NEED for the BIRDSTEP MIP in this arena because it is not needed on each of the handsets for them to roam freely betwen two networks and also you need to understand how the 1XRTT and 1EVDO operates technically. Both 1XRTT and 1EVDO are both using HA and FA (in the PDSN or GGSN in 1XRTT world) this are two key elements for the handover of the IP Address (just like IP Routing but on a different flavor) and this are the ones that has the Mobile IP software and NOT the phones . Now if these cellular provider already has these MIP into their network long time before Birdstep developed and come out of their own software then I believe that Birdstep is the one that is lagging the competition because there will be NO MARKET for them in this arena. By understanding this, I can conclude that ASNAP is NOT A COMPETITOR of Birdstep because MIP is a method used to handover the IP Address while ASNAP is a method to use two different worlds seamlessly, Wi-Fi and Cellular.

I am taking back what I posted before because I mentioned before that Birdstep is a competitor of ASNAP but after reading all about BT's MIP I am now clear and I can say it again that Birdstep is NOT A COMPETITOR of ASNAP. Birdstep is a COMPETITOR of MSFT and other software company that develops Mobile IP.
