KANSAS CITY -- The road woes continue for the Rays.
Tampa Bay lost its seventh straight as a visitor, falling to the Royals, 4-2, on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. The Rays had won four out of their six games after the All-Star break, but they were all at home. The first six of the consecutive road losses came before the break.

Tampa Bay couldn't get anything going offensively against starter Gil Meche. He pitched seven scoreless innings.

Tampa Bay finally scored in the eighth, pushing one across against lefty reliever Ron Mahay. Jason Bartlett scored on a groundout by B.J. Upton. Bartlett had led off the inning with a double and compiled three hits in his return from the disabled list.

Kansas City had Rays starter Matt Garza figured out. He made it through only five innings, allowing four earned runs.

The runs started in the first. David DeJesus led off with a single and then later scored on a sacrifice fly from Mark Grudzielanek. Garza gave up the other three in the fourth inning. Ross Gload drove in one run on a single, and John Buck dealt the big blow with a double that scored two runs.

After taking the first three games against the Royals this season, the Rays have now lost two in a row.
