Why is Rumsfeld not resigning? I don't understand what there is to gain by leaving him in place, but there is so much to gain by his resignation, not a slow drawn out battle in congress (I see Rangel is now asking for his impeachment that is a lengthy process which will be "center stage" for too long), but a swift kick butts action. If that was done, it would be clear in the world and the Arab world that our apologies are not hollow. After all, at the time Sharon was forced to resign as Defense minister, for actions of forces (Christians Lebanese Militzias) not under his command and against his direct orders, still he bore enough indirect responsibility that resignation was the right decision. Rumsfeld is directly responsible for what our soldiers have done, the resignations should go down the line, including Meyers and possibly few higher ups in the Reserve (and non reserve) military police establishment. Dumping it on the soldiers alone is just not right, particularly since it seems that the "atmosphere" for such behavior was instilled from the top down. The CIA chief should also go, not just for misinformation leading to the war, but for its operative in Iraq demanding the mistreatment (they call it "softening") of the detainees.
