I got tired of speculating and guessing so I called the mine in Pond Creek (606)237-4900 (bobby) that the prior posters left up there. GREAT NEWS.
They expect to be in production Tuesday or Thursday. I spoke with the superintendent of the mine, BObby. He said they have been in rehabilitation for the last 3 1/2 months and are near done. The problem he said that people don't understand is that they are literally clearing away a piece of the mountain to get to the coal. Rock is difficult to cut through, not like coal which is softer. Somedays he said they move 50-60ft a day but today, they had troubles and only moved about twenty feet (hence delays sometimes). He said that there is about a 1000 tons of rock outside the mountain they have already cleared away. He said they will work through the weekend and if necessary through the fourth of july to make production happen. They will be working 10-12 hour shifts per man to get this done. He said he guarnteed Eugene that they would be on cole by the end of the month July a couple months ago and intends to keep that promise. HE said he has been getting calls all day with people asking if this really is a mine and I explained that a rumor got around involving Eugene and a possible fake plan here or scam, and that is why people are calling, becuase they want to be sure about the validity of the mine. He said well, I have been here since 1984 as the superintendednt and anyone can call the kentucky mining associaton or board as they come and do inspections for safety and can verify they are real and there. Okay back to work. WHo cares if production is late anyway in my opinion, these guys somedays go 60ft and others 20. He also asked for peoples patience and it will get done.
