Fans won't be able to watch games online until after they have appeared on TV. NBC plans to sell TV-like video ads that will appear with the video downloads. Wavexpress will get a share of the ad revenue.
Some advertisers such as a footwear manufacturer or sporting goods store might be willing to pay top dollar if it means reaching a select audience interested in a specific sport, says Altman Vilandrie's Hurd.
"That is almost a must buy," he said. "Where else could you advertise your equipment to reach such a targeted audience?"
