SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2008) - GuardianEdge, the leader in endpoint data protection for the enterprise, today announced that Trion has selected GuardianEdge Hard Disk Encryption and GuardianEdge Removable Storage Encryption solutions to protect proprietary information on company laptops and removable storage devices. Trion, an employee benefits and consulting leader, is now armed with award-winning solutions for the protection of customer data. In the event that a company laptop or removable storage device is lost or stolen, the data contained within is protected. The GuardianEdge solutions also prevent the accidental transfer of confidential data to other devices such as iPods, CDs, DVDs and USB thumb drives.

Headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa., Trion develops innovative solutions for local, regional and Fortune 1000 companies. With more than 300 associates nationally, Trion specializes in health and welfare plans, large-employer disability and life programs, benefits administration, integrated health and productivity management, and voluntary benefits.

"When we were evaluating endpoint data protection solutions, cost and complexity were our primary concerns. GuardianEdge lets us manage everything under a single umbrella with a very low operational overhead," said Corey Musselman, senior security officer, CISSP, Trion. "We looked at a number of offerings and found that using GuardianEdge meant we weren't required to purchase and manually integrate myriad different solutions. The GuardianEdge products are designed for ease of deployment and ongoing management. Upon installation they provided the premium level of protection we need."

Trion worked with infoLock Technologies to seamlessly and quickly implement GuardianEdge Hard Disk Encryption and GuardianEdge Removable Storage Encryption into their infrastructure. infoLock Technologies, a channel partner in the GuardianEdge Trusted Partner Network, is an information security consulting firm specializing in lifecycle data security and insider threat management services and solutions for financial services firms, health care providers, and federal, state, and local government agencies.

"Sensitive data is everywhere in the enterprise, including desktops, laptops and notebooks, USB devices, PDAs and smartphones, and other locations," said Sean Steele, CISSP, CISA, senior security consultant, infoLock Technologies. "For customers such as Trion, we work closely with them to determine a security solution that is tailored to fit their needs. For Trion, that meant understanding the types of information that they were looking to protect and the way that information was shared throughout the organization. Being part of the GuardianEdge Trusted Partner program enables our organization to better address the needs and demands of customers because we have absolute confidence in the strength of the solutions that we're providing."

With strong pre-boot user authentication and full disk encryption, GuardianEdge Hard Disk Encryption ensures that organizations like Trion have a premium level of protection against the compromise of sensitive or proprietary information. GuardianEdge Removable Storage Encryption enables organizations to maximize the business and productivity benefits of using removable storage devices and removable media while minimizing risks to data security. With strong, policy-driven encryption, it provides an efficient, cost effective way to extend endpoint data protection to removable storage devices such as USB memory thumb drives and portable hard drives, as well as removable media such as CDs and DVDs. When the solutions are combined, data is protected on all forms of laptops, desktops and removable media and is encrypted in the event any such device is lost or stolen.

"At GuardianEdge we believe that comprehensive endpoint data protection solutions need to be easy to deploy and managed on an ongoing basis, meeting the specific needs for each organization using them," said Ram Krishnan, senior vice president of products and marketing at GuardianEdge. "Trion works with confidential health care records and Social Security information, and required a solution that did not disrupt their staff's daily operations, while keeping their data safe. While GuardianEdge customers vary in size, market and data protection needs, each enterprise we serve strives to protect confidential information, preserve their brand reputation and avoid data breach headlines. We are proud to be known as a valuable resource for enterprises combating data loss or leakage."

This was exactly my question from the other day. I see no reference that this product utilizes hardened encryption or the services of the tpm or encrypting itself done inside the hard drive, YET this Trion company seems perfectly happy with Guardian Edge product.

The comment from Seagate's VP that software encryption will be history in a few years (loosely paraphrased) caused me to wonder whether companies like this are going to re-purchase new harware encryption security after they just spent a lot of money or is perhaps that comment by the Seagate exec wishful thinking?

I am also wondering if Wave even got to bid on this company's project for securing it's endpoints and data.
