I'm actually surprised he's shutting down for the year. When I had my ACL done I was running again after 6-weeks of rehab, which consisted of 3-times a week at a fitness center and exercises at home daily.
The swelling is the most difficult part of the recovery process. If he takes the rest of the year off, it's only because the 5-hours walking on the course causes too much swelling on his knee.
I guess another part of shutting down is there is not much to play for after September, so he doesn't need to really do much until January anyway.
