Will TVTonic be the catalyst for this investment? The fact that CNET announced that TVTonic was the 3rd most popular Ipod Client should have raised a few eyebrows over here in DD Land. But it didn't elicit a comment.
On the face of it, the idea that TVTonic is more popular than Microsoft's ZUNE is absurd, unless the popularity is based on the number of VISTA PCs that come bundled with TVTonic{ie, there are many millions of TVTonic software sitting inside many millions of Vista PCs). And I might add TVTonic has been designed to be seamlessly integrated to the Xbox-360.
What I find fascinating is the concept of millions of XBOXs and ZUNES in the marketplace ALL with TPMs embedded inside. And yes folks, whether this board acknowledges this pregnant fact or not, MILLIONS of TPMs are already out there in Zune and Xbox devices. What would be the significance of TVTonic Subscription Management Software suddenly taking root inside those TPMs?
We have some really interesting partner opportunities that are sitting in front of us, that are what drive us to continue to invest in this(Wavexpress). Clearly content is going to play a very major role in the consumer side of the deployment of the security technologies, both in the form of storage and in the form of authentication.
"As for synchronization with hand-held devices, we are working with a partner to make this available. Zune is certainly a device we would want to support."
The trouble with such scenarios is that they're easy to draw on a whiteboard but complicated to execute. Say you combine the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Zune Marketplace--how do you cut the 10 million current Xbox Live customers over to the new service without interruptions? How do you tailor the interface and featured content to the device accessing it?
