It's serious if somebody's position is sizeable and the stock tanks while the shares are caught in limbo, not allowing the person to sell, and thus costing them what might be a potentially large amount of money. Should brokers reimburse for losses if other brokers are freely trading the stock without emcumbrance? I bet they would say no. I bet shareholders would say yes.
