Time for my two cents worth...

What a refreshing day! It seems as if the pall that hung over this land has been lifted, there is once again joy in Mudville.

For all the fluff about Gore's concession speech I have only this comment. Did anyone else notice how at the end of the speach he was clenching his jaw. By the frequency and amplitude of the jaw muscle movement I'd say he ground a good 1/8 inch off the old molars trying to keep that smile. Keep your eyes and ears open, this guy isn't done yet.

Many are misinterpreting GW's strength. He didn't get the Dems in TX to cooperate by cowtowing to the hardliners, he accomplished unity by appealing to the more reasonable members of both parties and supported their efforts while ignoring the radical left and right. Soon the old guard were replaced with the more reasonable legislators and things got done.

Already the media are preaching "Washington isn't Texas, It won't be so easy here". It is clear the left thinks their best hope is to stall progress and render GW ineffective. IMHO they are taking a real gamble.
Remember that in order for legislation to pass it only needs a 1 vote majority in the house, then in the senate and a presidential signature to become law. Congress has been sending tax cuts to Clinton since '94, he's vetoed every one. Somehow I don't think GW will be vetoing any tax cuts sent to him by the Republican controlled Congress. The real test will be to see how many Dems join in as the steamroller gets going.

I suspect the tax cut will come first, it is the least galvanizing of the issues before us and likely the easiest to get Dems to sing in the same key as the rest of us.

The one wild card in this (believe it or not) is Algore and his supporters. Will they really sit back quietly and watch as 50 years of their hard work gets dismantled? What will they do? What lengths will they go to to try and retain any of their former Glory. We have had an example in this election mess.

Seems we may have a case of the old Gypsy curse...

May you live in interesting times!
