Dumb question about my system clock !

Why...when I'm running streaming quotes, charts, have several windows open, mIRC etc...over the course of the trading day, my system clock loses time. Sometimes it loses as much as 20 or 30 minutes before I notice it and re-set it. It may take hours for this to happen but...it happens every day.

Running an older Windows 98 system...450MHZ. fwiw

What causes this?

Is there anything I can do about it ?
