I started my son in trading in about the eight grade. About the same amount invested. I don't recall the final results, but he traded carefully, made some $, & he lost some $, but the education was invaluable, & not just for investing. Later on the cautions you pick up here will help protect you when you are dealing with several more zeros in your investments. Better return than cds & money market accts. for sure.
