Gartner Mobile Phone Sell Through in Q4 2007 and CY 2007

• Worldwide sales of mobile phones to end users in 2007 surpassed 1.153 billion units, a 16 per cent increase from 2006 sell through of 990.9 million.

• Fourth quarter 2007 sales reached 330 million units.

• Nokia achieved its long-term target of 40 per cent market share in the fourth quarter of 2007 when it sold slightly more than 133 million phones (40.4%) across the world. Despite some component shortages, Nokia increased its market share sequentially in all regions except North America.

• In 2007 Nokia sold through 435.5 million phones up from 344.9 million. Nokia's 2007 global market share in 2007 increased 3 full percentage points to 37.8% from 34.8% in CY2006.

• In 2007 Motorola retained the 2 slot with 14.3% of units sold through -- down from 21.1% in 2006 -- and Samsung's share increased share 1.6 percentage points to 13.4% from 11.8%. Sony Ericsson increased share from 7.4% to 8.8%, and LG increased share from 6.3% to 6.8%.

• Research In Motion (RIM), ZTE and Apple were all new entrants in the global top 10 in 2007.

• Gartner expects ~10% YoY unit growth in 2008 to ~1.27 million units.
