Emergency Management Systems... another use for GIS software.
There's an interesting article in ArcUser this month (by ESRI, an ECTY partner) regarding the use of GIS software during the aftermath of 911. Excerpt:
"The center supplied maps that showed destroyed, damaged, and unstable buildings; helped route debris removal, described the path of asbestos plumes; illustrated power outages; showed the location of emergency centers;..."
ECTY software was not use in this particular instance... but thought this was a good example of the kinds of things GIS software can be used for.
