Ampakineman, The compounds have to work clinically, but they also need adequate patent life to attract partners, and partnership deals are what is needed to save Cortex financially.

All the older compounds are in the same boat - CX-717, CX-701, Org-24448, Org-26576 - good compounds but not enough remaining patent life to justify commercialization. So patent life really is a key factor. If Cortex didn't have the new compounds coming up, then things would indeed be bleak.
