Question for Board....

The following comment is from Cooters on the SI board

Meanwhile,a number of sources indicated that Cingular Wireless is intensely interested in the 3.5G technology, HSPDA, which promises data downlink speeds approaching 10Mpbs. The technology is compatible with the EDGE standard, currently being utilized by Cingular, AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile.

"I would not doubt Cingular tip-toes right past WCDMA Rel99 if they feel HSPDA will be available in a reasonable timeframe, say 06-07.

Cooters "

My question is....

Isn't HSPDA (Which always seemed so far into the future) a next step evolution to WCDMA and therefore require a basic WCDMA license. Stepping around the initial Release '99 doesn't allow Cingular to wiggle out of royalties to QCOM, correct???

Thanks...
